What is a septic system? A septic system is comprised of a waste line, a septic tank, septic fields, and depending on the layout of the property, a pump chamber.
All the waste from the home leaves through the waste line and enters the septic tank, where liquid waste and solid waste is separated.
Solid waste remains inside of the septic tank, while the liquid leaves and either gravity flows into the septic fields or into a pump chamber, where it is pumped into the fields.
The size of your septic tank, fields, and the materials used to make them are all regulated by the state and town, and can depend much on the size and makeup of your property.
