What Goes Into Road Preparation?
Depending on the work put into the preparation of a road, your road can last for decades or for just a season.
It all starts with the proper excavation. All catch basins, storm, and utility pipes are placed far below the road elevation.
Once in place, all utilities must be properly backfilled and compacted. If this is not done in proper lifts, settlement can occur, and that can cause lots of problems for your road in the future.
The next step is the removal of all organic soils. These soils are not a supportive base for a road. Our team performs soil tests, so we are quite familiar with the proper soils on which a good road can be built, and which soil to remove.
Once the organic soil is removed, the road elevations are established, using laser transits.
High areas are removed, and lower areas filled with a road base material. Then the compaction takes place in lifts or sections.
These steps are critical to creating a road that is sound and will not heave or settle, causing driveways to crack and potholes to form.
